German, unlike other Indo-European languages, has preserved many elements with inflection character from the Indo-European root language, for example: four of the eight cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative), two of the three numbers (singular and plural), and three genders (masculine, feminine and neutral). One of the parts of speech subjected to a strong inflection, also called declination, is the adjective.
